Community Led-Housing Campaign #bettercantwait

Access to adequate housing options is a critical issue for our membership and the community.

There is a complex housing crisis in Guelph. Across the housing continuum; from emergency shelter for homeless individuals, to affordable options for low-income individuals, to market rates beyond the reach of many people in our community. There is an obvious lack of affordable and suitable housing stock to support our current population and mandated growth. This crisis isn’t unique to Guelph, and we recognize that this is not an easy problem to fix.

To that end, a growing community collaboration from across the housing continuum and beyond has put forward a plan. This group of advocates and leaders in the housing space has been instrumental in helping us develop and advance our urgent call to action. We have and will continue to call on elected leaders and official decision-makers of our community to put forward and act on a ‘whole of community plan’.  We would note that owning this problem (and its solutions) does not mean solving for everything nor paying for it alone. It would include engaging all levels of government as well as public and private sector partners. We are in this together. Better can’t wait.
