2022 Fall Economic Statement Response

Nov 7, 2022

The Guelph Chamber of Commerce released the following statement in response to the 2022 Fall Economic Statement announced on November 3, 2022.

“Businesses are still feeling the effects of the pandemic. While the short-term plans in the last few years allowed the navigation of its unprecedented challenges, now more than ever, the federal government needs to create long-term plans focused on business growth, investment, and competitiveness.

We welcome the federal government’s intention to increase immigration, small business supports, investments, and incentives for clean energy. These efforts will help make a meaningful impact on issues affecting the labour market, improve supply chain resiliency, productivity, and enable transitions to sustainable business practices.

While the announcement lacks a comprehensive blueprint for economic growth, we're hopeful to see plans for long-term growth, investment, and competitiveness in the upcoming 2023 Budget.

Above all, with the new programs and incentives announced, the Government of Canada must remain fiscally responsible and ensure that federal spending and investment generate an economic return.

We continue to urge all levels of government to have a coordinated strategy in place that brings businesses and stakeholders together to enable the conditions of business success and ensure growth and economic competitiveness.”
