Response to the Province's Fall Economic Outlook

Nov 17, 2022

The Guelph Chamber of Commerce released the following statement in response to the Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review announced on November 14, 2022.

“Under the reality of slowing economic growth, Ontario needs unified and long-term strategies that address the higher interest rates, inflation, labour shortages, and supply chain disruptions.

We are encouraged by aspects of the Government of Ontario’s Plan to Build, especially its targeted measures to strengthen workforce development, in particular the skilled trades, healthcare, and early childhood education; tax relief for small businesses; and support for workers with disabilities. Most importantly, the Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review acknowledges issues that matter most to Ontario businesses.

We look forward to working with the Government of Ontario to implement the measures outlined in Monday’s announcement and we urge the government to bring businesses and stakeholders to the table to reinforce its efforts to address issues such as healthcare and housing supply, which require increasingly urgent attention.

As a champion of Guelph’s business community, we continue to push for all levels of government to adopt strategies that unite businesses and enable growth, competitiveness, and overall business success.”
