The Guelph Chamber launches new video series on equity, diversity & inclusion

Dec 3, 2020

Guelph, Thursday December 3, 2020: The Guelph Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Sleeman Breweries Ltd. and RBC is launching a mini video-series, focusing on conversations surrounding equity, diversity and inclusion. The video series, Power in Diversity, is a five-part series where the Chamber will welcome local community members to help answer critical questions and provide thought leadership to the business community by talking about equity, diversity, and inclusion.

“We live and work in a diverse community, and we represent a diverse set of businesses here at the Chamber. We firmly believe that if we want to build and maintain a thriving business climate, we must all work hard, deliberately, and collectively to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion” says Shakiba Shayani, President & CEO of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce.  “To ensure we’re playing a role in creating an equitable business climate, we want to communicate candidly with our membership and community about the importance of having these challenging conversations.”

The first video in the series focuses on equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and features community activist Kevin Sutton. Sutton is a writer, spoken-word performance artist, workshop facilitator, communications professional, community organizer, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Guelph and hosts the Great Pause on CFRU 93.3 FM.

Throughout the coming months, the Chamber will release four more video interviews with local community members on the organization’s YouTube and social media channels. The Chamber looks forward to engaging in conversations surrounding women in business, newcomers in the workforce, supporting the LGBTQ2IA+ community, and accessibility in the workplace.

A message from our sponsor:

“At Sleeman Breweries, we are committed to developing a diversity strategy and laying out a plan for how we will be a more diverse and resilient company. Our strategy and plan need to encourage open and honest dialogue and place value on the best ideas, skills, and experiences that all our employees bring to our company. While we don’t have all the answers, one thing is clear, our strategy and plan cannot be representative of us as an organization if it’s created in isolation. We need to encourage open and honest dialogue and place value on the best ideas, skills, and experiences that all our employees and stakeholders bring to Sleeman.”
